I have a fun and very budget-friendly DIY project to feature today! Most weddings include boutonnieres for the guys included in the big day and with good reason! Boutonnieres add a splash of color to suits or tuxes, tie the guys into the style of the ceremony and reception, and just make them look especially dapper. But these little flower arrangements can add up! Averaging $15-$25+ each depending on the flower selected, it's not uncommon to have boutonnieres cost hundreds of dollars when ordering for the wedding party, ushers, fathers, and grandfathers. That can be a big part of a shoestring wedding budget! Annie Meyer decided to try her hand at creating her own boutonnieres for less and featured her experience on budget wedding site Blue Collar Bride. The result? Pretty boutonnieres for under $5 each! Head to Blue Collar Bride to see her step-by-step instructions and budget breakdown! (Thanks Annie and Blue Collar Bride!) Well, we knew it wouldn't last forever... The InkGarden 100 FREE business card deal expires tonight. So if you were thinking about snatching this one up, do it today! Use code 100FREE for one sided cards or 100FREE2 for two sided cards. You just have to pay shipping, which starts at $3.99. I ordered these and loved how they turned out! And they have some very fun designs. A few ideas as to how to use these for your wedding:
DIY Photo Booth on a Budget 03/06/2012
Photo booths are popular details at both weddings and showers right now. And with good reason- what better way to remember your special day than with goofy pictures of your loved ones with props and silly poses? I'll be the first to admit that I'm always among the first in line to photo booths, and my photo booth pictures often end up in frames, collages and photo books. What can I say- they're just so much fun! Renting an actual photo booth, though can be pricey, so many brides are opting for a DIY version. And actually- I like these better! You can get more people involved, you have space for fun props, and guests take their own photos, which means that they have the digital files for later. Just make sure they send you a copy! The best part is that these can be as simple or elaborate as you want, which means you can create a photo booth on any budget! Add bunting banners or tissue poms to create a fun atmosphere, choose colorful or patterned fabric for the backdrop, and include some props--guests can't resist them! I created a simple photo booth for my recent birthday party and it was so much fun! And very inexpensive... To create the booth, I hung a sheet as a background in the bay window of our living room, which created a nice alcove and hung a paper bunting banner (I'll feature the DIY steps next week) to make it more interesting. Then I included a basket full of props-- big lollipops, feather boas, and my favorite- printable mustaches, lips, and bow ties. To make the props, I used these photo booth printables and the printable bow ties from here and they were super easy. My instructions: print on heavy cardstock (get this for free or cheap when it's on sale), cut them out, buy some dowel rods and cut into thirds, and use a healthy amount of craft glue to attach the cardstock to the rods. These will take a while to dry, but when they do, they are very secure. See my finish products above-- cute, no? The budget breakdown: - A flat sheet from Target for the background: $7.50 - Paper Bunting Banner: $3.00 - Say Cheese Sign: made it myself- FREE - Lollipops: $1.50 each from Michaels-- $3.00 - Props: Dow rods from Michaels-- $2, FREE printables, cardstock and glue on hand: $2 Total for project: $15.50! And honestly, I could have done better on the sheet/fabric if I had planned ahead more- let that be a lesson to you! ☺ And these really work for any kind of party, so make one for a reception, bridal shower or rehearsal dinner!
